Help us FUND THE FIRLEY!
Created by his wife, Mrs. Hazel Firley, in 1973, The Firley Award honors the life and legacy of Henry J. Firley. He held the position of English Department Chairman for 34 years, from 1931 to 1965. Not only did his tenure span several decades, but it was through his efforts that made our yearbook, The Pinnacle, possible. Mr. Firley was a teacher, poet, literary critic, and America's first literary cartographer--in short, a true renaissance man.
The Henry J. Firley Writing Award, created to recognize originality and excellence in writing, has been given to a Glenbard West senior since 1975.
Our Goal: To raise $10,000 for The Firley Award by May 15, 2023--our 100th birthday. This will continue to allow the Glenbard West English Department to give the award for at least 10 years.
